Events have a way of upsetting the best laid plans but just like sailors setting out to sea, companies can prepare for the unexpected. In part, it’s about testing the boundaries of possibility in the annual plan and drawing up contingency scenarios. However, it’s equally about developing a team capacity for quick assessment of breaking events leading to a rapid corporate response.
At this year’s China Critical Issues dinner, we will be hosting Henny Sender, the Chief Correspondent for International Finance at the Financial Times.
Sender was part of a team at the Wall St Journal that won a Loeb award for coverage of the meltdown of Amaranth hedge fund. Her work on the overseas Chinese received a citation from the Overseas Press Club and she was a finalist for the National Magazine Awards. Her book on India was published by Oxford University Press. Sender holds an MS from the Columbia University School of Journalism and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Henny will first bring to our attention the major risks and opportunities she has on her radar for China over the next 12 months. Then, over a good meal and through a highly interactive and stimulating exchange of ideas between all participants, we will work together to come up with the key actors, flags, impact and how to mitigate those risks. This is essential preparation for what we expect will be a turbulent year ahead.
