ASEAN’s interest in building smart cities sits in the top 10 external factors that could reshape business. Hype and ambition are running well ahead of implementation, yet the trend is established. Smart cities should open up opportunities to transform the design and delivery of services and products, and alter our corporate footprint and customer relationships.

In our October Asia Management Forum session, we’ll ask two sets of questions about ASEAN’s effort: which cities, how much, and when; and how can we help build smart cities or adapt our businesses to them?

Fraser Thompson, Director, AlphaBeta. Fraser will help lead the discussion based on a new report by his firm AlphaBeta and Nielsen.  In addition many Forum members are already working on these issues, so we asked a few to open the debate as commentators. At the Asia CEO Forum the commentators will be:

  • Peter Weidner, Vice President, Asia & Pacific, BP Lubricants
  • Ryan Mai, President Southeast Asia, Otis
  • Kevin Coppel, Regional Head, Asia Pacific, Knight Frank

At the Asia Management Forum the commentators will be:

  • Megan Walters, Head of Research, Asia Pacific, JLL
  • Adrian Kok, Head of Strategy and Business, Regional Asia Pacific, BSH Home Appliances
  • Johnny Gao, Senior Director & General Manager ASEAN, Avery Dennison

We will aim to answer:

  • How is the consumer profile changing in ASEAN?
  • Where are the new consumer demand hot spots? (Which tier 2 & 3 cities are the ones promising strong growth?)
  • Is the nature of these cities changing? (Are they becoming smart?)
  • Is this affecting the way companies are selling?
  • Is this affecting what companies are selling?

Members of the Asia CEO and Management Forums can register for the meeting by logging into the Members Area and selecting the event from the Calendar.
