Q2 Asia & China Forecast Update
We’re changing the format for our forecast update. The goal is to provide you with the full Asia Outlook plus the China Outlook from our five Shanghai sessions held over the prior two days. Some 200 clients get to those meetings along with a string of great commentators. The debates are fascinating, and we’ll aim to carry the insights to our China Outlook in Hong Kong the following day.
To accommodate the extra material and debate, our Hong Kong meeting will run from 8-10.30am with a mid-way coffee break. In the first session (8.00-9.15am), we’ll review and debate the Asia Outlook. After the coffee break, we’ll address the China Outlook (9.30-10.30am).
At Q1, we argued that Asian markets would divide on two characteristics in 2019: the strength of local demand and their capacity to contain risks. In the Asia Outlook, I’ll review that Q1 optimism in the wake of a string of big elections, sliding global growth indicators, and a deterioration in US-China relations. We’ll then share insights around the table and debate the potential to realign strategy to cope with such challenges.
After the coffee break, well present the China Outlook and recap key issues raised by forum members at the Shanghai sessions before we turn to our own debate.
It is a good opportunity to compare insights into how to manage a challenging outlook.
